9 Tips to Eat More Fruit with Less Effort
Fruit is incredibly healthy, yet not everyone consumes enough of it. Do you find it challenging to eat enough fruit? These tips will help you eat more fruit with minimal effort.
“The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.” — Thomas Edison
Currently, 80% of my diet consists entirely of fruit. Since I started doing this, I’ve noticed that I feel much more evident in my mind, have more energy, sleep better, and, not less importantly, go to the bathroom better and have even lost weight.
I began this journey after experiencing various health issues and food intolerances. I shed an impressive 55 kilos a decade ago by incorporating more fruit into my diet. So, nothing is stopping me from doing it again, becoming fully fit, and radiating health.
What I share might seem traditional, but I’m always committed to following through. This is my personal experience.
Why Slightly Toxic Can Be Highly Beneficial
Green leafy vegetables, herbs, and sprouts are incredibly beneficial (They are “natural medicine”) precisely because they contain mild toxins.
☠️
This concept is known as hormesis.
What Exactly is Hormesis?
Hormesis comes from the Greek word for “stimulation.” It refers to the phenomenon where a substance harmful in high doses can have positive effects in low doses.
In other words, the right amount of green “medicine” has a healing effect, but an overdose will make you unhappy.
And here’s the kicker: a low dose is beneficial and essential for minerals and trace elements, while too high a dose can harm your health.
However, too little stimulation also diminishes the positive effect. So, it’s not advisable to consume only vegetables all day (unless you enjoy a bloated belly and frequent gas).
The optimal amount of this “medicine” varies from person to person. However, incorporating a small amount daily seems to be critical.
Unlike fruit, which you can eat in abundance, mildly toxic plants are beneficial because they prompt the body to defend itself, triggering detoxification processes.
Since fruit doesn’t contain these toxic substances (alkaloids), you can eat large quantities of the same fruit over an extended period without issues.
In contrast, variety and rotation are slightly more critical for vegetables, herbs, sprouts, seaweed, and wild plants. Thankfully, with thousands of edible plants available, that’s not difficult to achieve.
The Crucial Role of Fruit in Your Diet
Yes – eating fruit is healthy. You already knew that; you’ve been told since childhood. But eating fruit turns out to be more important than you thought. Even a tiny increase in fruit intake can drastically reduce your chances of serious diseases.
Also, the more fruit you eat, the more your children will eat. This way, they effortlessly carry this habit into their lives, reducing their risk of diseases for life.
When you eat a lot of fruit, you’ll not only feel better. You’ll also look better. Research suggests that your skin will glow healthier, making you more attractive to potential partners.
And yes – fruit is, of course, simply delicious. But even if you’re not a “fruit person,” eating more fruit is possible. Below are nine tips to help you eat more fruit with less effort.

1. Integrate Fruit into Existing Habits
For many people, eating more fruit is simply a matter of building a habit. Linking fruit consumption to an existing habit is a straightforward way to do this.
Consider the following:
- Have an apple right when you get home from work.
- Start your day with a smoothie.
- Reach for a piece of fruit at 11:00 a.m. when you feel hungry.
- Enjoy fruit as a dessert after dinner.
How can you turn fruit consumption into a regular habit?
2. Keep Fruit Visible and Stock Up
We all dislike wasting food, so why not challenge yourself to buy more fruit than you usually would and keep it in a prominent place?
This way, you’re constantly reminded of the fruit you must eat. And you’ll be more inclined to consume it rather than let it go to waste.
Buying in bulk can be an excellent strategy for encouraging yourself to eat more fruit. I apply the same principle to vegetables—a fully stocked fridge pushes me to cook with as many veggies as possible because I hate throwing food away.
3. Choose Fruit That Brings You Joy
If you find apples annoying, don’t choose apples. If kiwis make you itch, don’t force yourself to eat them. It sounds logical, but sometimes we make things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves.
Yes – apples are cheaper than plums. But if you like plums better, spend a little more. Eating more fruit is more important than saving a little money now. Eating fruit is an investment in your health – now and in the future.
Save on your mobile phone, TV subscription, or energy bill instead. And spend on fruit.
4. Blend Fruit into a Smoothie
A green smoothie is an excellent way to pack a large amount of fruit (possibly leafy greens) into a single meal. Just make a smoothie (using a blender), not just juice.
Why? In a smoothie, you use all the fruit, not just the juice, to reap all the health benefits.
Freshly squeezed juices are less healthy than they appear because your body absorbs the sugars too quickly without the fiber. Opt for whole fruits whenever possible; only peel them if the skin is inedible.
“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.” — François de La Rochefoucauld
5. Opt for Frozen or Pre-Cut Fruit
If eating fruit feels like a hassle, treat yourself to the convenience of pre-cut fruit, even if it costs a bit more. As mentioned earlier, increasing your fruit intake is more important than saving a few euros. If you frequently find yourself avoiding the effort of cutting fruit, buy pre-cut options.
Avoid canned fruit, as it often contains added syrup. Instead, go for fresh, pre-cut fruit or frozen fruit. Frozen fruit is more affordable and allows you to buy in bulk without worrying about spoilage. This way, you’ll always have fruit on hand!
6. Replace Unhealthy Snacks with Fruit
Do you usually snack on something unhealthy between breakfast and lunch? Replace that snack with a piece of fruit. Or swap out your dessert for fruit. By doing this, you achieve two things:
- You ensure that you eat an extra piece of fruit.
- You replace an unhealthy snack with something incredibly nutritious.
Tuck an apple in your bag instead of a sugary snack. It doesn’t get any easier than that.
7. Make Fruit Eating a Mindfulness Practice
To practice mindfulness, consider turning fruit consumption into a daily mindfulness exercise. This can make preparing fruit more enjoyable.
For instance, I like to take my time when eating an orange. I focus on cutting it carefully and eating it with full awareness.
This turns eating fruit into a moment of self-care. You nourish your body and calm your mind. It might sound a bit old-fashioned, but it’s effective.
8. View It as an Investment in Your Future
As mentioned earlier, fruit prevents severe diseases and health conditions. This applies to you, your partner, and your children.
If you eat more fruit, you’re investing in a healthier future. And at the same time, you have a positive influence on the people around you. Because if you’re cutting that melon anyway, you might as well share it.
And don’t worry too much about “organic” or “non-organic.” Organic fruit may be the healthiest, but it’s also more expensive. You might look for a nearby farm or a bio-vegetable fruit package to get affordable organic fruit.
But above all, it’s essential to eat a lot of fruit. Eating non-organic fruit is much better than not eating fruit at all.
